Each year, the team at Magellan Promotions gets involved with Giving Tuesday by donating to causes and charities that we find important. Magellan generously matched each individual donation, for a total of more than $1,690 in donations to these organizations – a record year in contributions for Magellan!
Here’s a look at where we donated and why we support these great organizations.
United for Waukesha Community Fund
Supported by Alyssa
This Giving Tuesday, I am donating to the United for Waukesha Community Fund. This fund is providing support to the impacted families of the tragic Waukesha parade incident. I attended high school blocks from where the tragedy occurred and am looking to help however I can. I’ve found hope in how the community has banded together during this tragic time.

This year, I’m donating to METAvivor. METAvivor is the only organization that solely funds MBC research through a scientific peer-review process. Their mission is to transition metastatic breast cancer from a terminal diagnosis to a chronic, manageable disease with a decent quality of life.
Breast cancer fundraisers are everywhere, but most of the money raised goes toward breast cancer prevention and early detection efforts. Very little of it, only 2-3%, is dedicated toward research for Stage IV, metastatic breast cancer (this is the spread of breast cancer to non-adjacent parts of the body — most commonly to the bones, liver, lungs and/or brain). Many effective breast cancer treatments exist, but if the cancer metastasizes and spreads outside of the breast, there is no cure.
The Turtle Hospital – Rescue Rehab Release
Supported by Audrey
I visited the Turtle Hospital on a Florida Keys trip and was touched by all the work they do for these amazing sea creatures. The Turtle Hospital is a small non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of endangered sea turtles. The hospital also educates the public through outreach programs and local school visits, conducts and assists with research aiding sea turtles (with state universities), and works towards environmental legislation making the beaches and water safe and clean for sea turtles. The hospital has successfully treated and released over 1500 sea turtles since its founding in 1986.
United for Waukesha Community Fund

The tragedy that happened at the Waukesha Christmas parade really hit too close to home for me. What happened was heartbreaking, scary, and negatively impacted so many members of our community. I knew many people at that parade and thankfully all were unharmed. I felt inclined to do what little I can to support the cause, which is why I chose to donate to the United for Waukesha Community Fund.
Allies for Teens in Foster Care and International Rescue Committee
Supported by Michael
International Rescue Committee
The awful humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia is close to my heart as we adopted both of our boys from that lovely country. In addition to COVID-19 severely impacting their country, they are undergoing an awful civil war, a drought and an infestation of desert locusts. The IRC is providing a wide range of assistance to refugees and vulnerable Ethiopian communities. So I was called to help them in their mission this year.
Allies for Teens in Foster Care
My college friend, Allison Byrne, started this grassroots organization a few years ago when she learned the tremendous challenges that teenage foster children face, including that 20% are instantly homeless when they age out of foster care. She has firsthand experience as she is a licensed social worker who worked with adolescent trauma and she herself was a foster mother for a year before adopting her eight year old. As she learned more about the challenges these teenagers faced, she could not sit and watch to see who would help solve this challenge, she dug in and created this organization. I am so proud of her and excited to support their mission!
Allies for Teens in Foster Care
Supported by Rachel
This year, I’m giving to Allies for Teens in Foster Care. Growing up, I had many foster siblings and they brought my family a lot of joy, laughter and happiness. I want to support those kids that have a tough time in foster care as they age out of the system and help give them the resources they need to flourish in life.
Ocean Conservancy
Supported by Ryan
I support Ocean Conservancy because the ocean is our most important natural resource and the center of who we are. The ocean covers 70 percent of Earth and supplies half of the oxygen we breathe. To put it simply, we are connected to and deeply intertwined with the world’s oceans. Unfortunately, our ocean faces major threats like never before. Climate change, pollution and habitat destruction are just a few issues we are facing. I believe it’s vitally important to support science-based solutions to protect our ocean and wildlife habitats so we can have a healthy planet and enjoy the amazing beauty our oceans and ocean wildlife offer for generations to come. Ocean Conservancy works to protect the oceans from today’s global challenges by bringing people, policy and science together to champion innovative solutions and fight for a sustainable ocean.

I chose to donate to US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer), which is a community-based training program for all athletes with intellectual, emotional, and/or physical disabilities. The program strives to provide soccer opportunities for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun, and supportive/inclusive environment. My mom and I have volunteered with our local TOPSoccer program, which is run by a very dear friend, and I absolutely loved seeing the joy in the players’ eyes while playing the beautiful game.
Make-A-Wish Foundation and the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota
Supported by Steve
This Giving Tuesday I supported “Make-A-Wish.” For nearly 40 years, Make-A-Wish has been granting life-changing wishes for children and families. These wishes impact everyone involved—wish kids, parents, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. Others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. For children diagnosed with critical illnesses, a wish come true can be a crucial turning point in their lives, can be a spark that helps them believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses.
I’m also supporting the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at the University of Minnesota, which provided me with an unforgettable undergraduate experience and a set of skills that prepared me for life after graduation. I then had the opportunity to serve the college in a professional capacity and work with some incredible faculty, staff and students. I really cannot say enough about CLA and how it contributes to the betterment of the U of M, the state of Minnesota, our country, and the world. CLA all the way!
The Trevor Project and Oak Health Foundation
Supported by Tim
This year I gave to two organizations that navigate the complexities of mental health through holistic support and treatment.
Oak Health Foundation seeks to eliminate the stigma attached to mental healthcare. Their work focuses on comprehensive approaches that integrate professional mental, physical, and spiritual health care.
The Trevor Project is a world leader in LGBTQ youth suicide prevention and the country’s only LGBTQ organization to operate at the intersections of LGBTQ youth mental health, suicidology, and crisis intervention.
The Magellan team is glad to have the opportunity to help so many worthy organizations in our community and around the world.
