When it comes to deciding on the perfect branded merch for your project, you’ll want to consider the quantity, budget, product color, imprint and date needed. But it doesn’t stop there – there are many more details to consider, so we’ve gathered the best practices to ensure your collaboration with Magellan is a resounding success!

Finding the Perfect Product
Before you dive into the vast sea of product options, consider a few key factors. While searching on your own for products may seem easier, we always recommend connecting with your Account Manager as they will help brainstorm ideas based on your specific needs. Here are some questions to think about before the brainstorm begins:

  1. Audience: Who is your audience and how will they use these items? Are they handed out at an event, for staff appreciation gifts or something else?
  2. No duplication: Remember what your audience has received in the past to avoid duplications. 
  3. Restrictions: Be mindful of any restrictions. For example, maybe the college or organization doesn’t allow items handed out that are made from plastic.
  4. What is most important: While budget is crucial, don’t let it be your sole compass. Determine your project’s most important parameters – whether it’s product color, speedy delivery, full-color imprinting, or something entirely unique.

 

Additional Considerations
Now that your brainstorming is underway, here are more parameters to keep in mind when choosing branded merch.   

  • Useful and Appreciated: Choose items that people want but don’t necessarily buy themselves. Think beach towels, wireless chargers and umbrellas.  
  • Value vs Brand Name: While name brands are appreciated, often there are items that have similar looks and functionality at a significantly lower price point. Decide whether style and function or brand recognition are your top priorities.
  • Mailing: If your branded merch is going to be mailed to recipients, let us know at the beginning of the project so we can recommend appropriate options. In addition, we can help you explore packaging options and fulfillment strategies.

  • Freedom of Choice: If possible, offer your audience a selection of branded merch items. This increases excitement and long-term use.
  • Marketing Synergy: If the branded merch is accompanying marketing messaging, consider how the two can be tied together. For example, journals can feature a tip-in page (a full-color page with your design and content added into the front of the journal), while sticker sheets have ample room for messaging creativity on one or both sides of the sheet.

While our mail house does prefer to use their permit number for the mailing, we can use the client’s permit, If using their permit number, ensure there is enough postage to cover the mailing.
