Pride That Sticks: How DePaul Used Sticker Sheets to Engage Alumni and Families

Sometimes the best merch doesn’t have to be flashy. It just needs to be smart, intentional, and in the right place at the right time. That was the strategy behind DePaul University’s dual sticker sheet campaign, co-created by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Parent Engagement.

The goal was to build pride and connection across two important audiences: alumni and families of current students. At the same time, making it easy for people to take the next step and stay involved.

At alumni events across the country, DePaul handed out custom-designed two-sided sticker sheets. On the front multiple unique stickers were designed to spark nostalgia and school pride, while the back made a clear call to action, inviting recipients to visit the alumni homepage, make a gift, attend an event, and follow DePaul on social media.

The family version was passed out during Move-In and throughout the start of the school year to connect with parents and supporters of both new and returning students. The front remained similar with engaging stickers and the back had information and resources encouraging families to sign up for the newsletter, join the parent Facebook group, and a contact email specifically dedicated for parents.

Both sticker sheets were also handed out during Alumni & Family Weekend, and they’ve become a go-to item for registration and information tables at various events throughout the year.

By pairing fun, branded designs with helpful next steps and resources, these sticker sheets turned out to be an easy way to drive awareness, encourage engagement, and let DePaul pride travel home with every guest.

Variable Data Best Practices

  • At the quoting stage of your project, please let us know how many fields of variable data your piece will have as this can affect pricing.
  • Data should be provided to us as an Excel spreadsheet with only the applicable data included.
  • Verbiage for variable data fields on artwork file should match up exactly with data fields on spreadsheet.
  • Spacing on artwork must allow for longest data entries. We recommend that your designer tests this in advance to confirm that the fields in the design can fit your longest pieces of data.
