Lapel Pins Mark Key Milestones For Donors – Carnegie Mellon University

Magellan Promotions is proud to have played a role in a tradition that embodies both prestige and philanthropy at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The university wanted to find a way to exhibit appreciation to longstanding donors and to motivate them to continue their commitment to the “Order of the May,” and to achieve lifetime membership at 25 years. This notable group represents the bond between the university and its most steadfast donors, and together, we crafted a tangible way to acknowledge their journey of support over decades.

To maintain enthusiasm and connection throughout this extended period, CMU has introduced an engaging program using commemorative lapel pins. Donors who embark on this path of giving are celebrated at key milestones: starting at three years of consecutive giving, with special recognition at the 5, 10, 15, 20-year marks; finally, at 25 years, lifetime members are celebrated at their exclusive Spring Carnival, culminating in the presentation of a sword lapel pin, paired with a sword replica letter opener.

Each pin, designed to signify a particular milestone in the giving journey, is more than just a memento. It represents the commitment and cumulative impact of the donors, offering them a tangible piece of CMU’s appreciation and a reminder of their significant role in the university’s community. These pins, sent out to donors and their household members, allow all supporters to wear their pride and dedication.

The introduction of these lapel pins has sparked a positive response, highlighting how impactful and meaningful tokens can encourage long-term engagement and support. Motivated by this success, Carnegie Mellon is considering expanding this concept to further deepen the connection with its donor community.

CMU’s initiative showcases the powerful role that thoughtful, customized merch can play in fostering enduring relationships and commemorating collective successes.
